Episode 7.2: “I Found You”

Well–here we are at True Blood day.  Wish I could be more excited.

This is the description of the episode from Wiki:

A trio of hostages taken in the Bellefleur’s attack looks to a familiar face as a possible liberator from the H-vamps. Sookie and Jason visit the neighboring town of Saint Alice, where a young woman’s diary offers clues to the potential fate of Bon Temps. Spurned by Lafayette, a desperate Lettie Mae turns to Willa to channel her family past. Vince whips his fellow vigilantes into a dangerous frenzy. Pam’s search for her maker leads her to a very familiar place.

  • Item 1: Hmm…a familiar face?  Could it be Eric?  I’d love if it were, but I don’t think it will be.  I’m guessing Tara, whom I still think is alive/undead.
  • Item 2: The “neighboring town” is obviously the town that has been shown in all the previews.  If Sookie and Jason need to read a diary to know what the Hep-V vamps might do, then they are more clueless than I thought.  LOL.  I thought it was pretty obvious.  But maybe there will be something “extra” in the diary.  I won’t hold my breath though.
  • Item 3: Oh Lettie Mae, I loved your scene w/ Tara last year, but I don’t know if I really want to “follow your story.”  On another note, it seems that Lala is going to be in a “relationship” with Jessica’s “boyfriend.”  Rumor has it that the actor playing James last year didn’t want to do the gay scenes, so he opted out for “creative differences.”  I won’t judge–despite my personal views on the matter b/c people have the right to feel what they feel–but I won’t miss the old one.  The new one is just as good–and I still don’t really care about him.  LOL.
  • Item 4: Is Vince the one that Sam defeated to be mayor?  Do I care?  No.
  • Item 5: I wonder where Pam’s search will take her…I hope we get a look at Eric tonight.  The title of the episode seems to indicate that we’ll get a glimpse.  I don’t hold out a lot of hope that he’ll have a great story this season, but my fingers will stay crossed b/c this character deserves so much more than he’s been given.

Like I said earlier in the week, I’ll be at a going away party for friends tonight, but I’m DVR-ing the episode, and I’ll join in the discussion after I watch.  I hope that everyone who was here last week returns for more “fun.”  And I hope that new people join us.  I’ll “see” y’all later.  Have fun without me tonight.

Tonight’s drinking game: Drink every time Sookie does something dumb. [Yep–we’re gonna get snockered.]

dumb 1

fucking-sookie

I’ll catch up with y’all when I can.

Ya, last episode she claimed to be the vamp expert of Bon temps even though she knew nothing about the vamp camp or Nora’s death so why would she need a diary?

Can’t believe that in the twenty-first century, these idiot writers think we want a Stepford wife. (They should take a page out of Joss Whedon’s book, who always writes either strong female characters, or female characters who gain confidence and become strong).

You are preaching to the choir! I totally agree. That’s why I was initially so excited about the Sookie character. Too bad it all went to hell in a hand-basket.

I know. Plus, I feel like the writers for the later season were like “let’s see how many different random couples we can make”. I get that it’s an adult show, but I want the sex scenes to be there for a reason and to have some substance in them, instead of just eye candy. (Maybe I’m spoiled from watching Buffy and Firefly?)

Couldn’t agree more. Joss Whedon did the redeemable vampire so well and the strong, self-confident, and independent female lead in a way that still resonates. I love Sookie Stackhouse, but Buffy was first and still kicks ass on a TV screen somewhere.

My living room is going to be a mess. I’m throwing Styrofoam peanuts every time Sookie does something stupid. Perhaps I’ll sprinkle a little carpet freshener instead although alcohol sounds so much more appealing. Kat, from which Wiki did you get your info? Couple of questions:
    Why after all these years:
    1. Are we just hearing about this town? Bon Temps is so small & remote (except for every supernatural ever dreamed of), even the neighboring town hasn’t merited a tiny mention, but others have. Yet someone there has been keeping a diary for what? Just the last 6-7 months, or before the vamps came out of the coffin, or just knows about the Hep-V vamps and keeps it a secret? WTF?
    2. Is Lettie Mae a central character? Please send her back to Reverend Daniels and her smudge sticks. I don’t know who is the more annoying, Lettie Mae or her daughter; which leads me to
    3. Didn’t see it so can’t swear to it – I agree with Kat. I think the 3 captives in Fangtasia’s torture chamber see Tara, BUT is she a dangerous PMS’ing Hep-V vamp or is she just her natural PMS’ing bitchy, whiney vampire self? How’s that possible, and if she’s the hero, I repeat, WTF?
    4. Have we ever met Vince, the Vigilante, before Season 7? He seems to be more of a pain in the ass than a vigilante, and if he IS a vigilante, why doesn’t someone arrest his ass? Andy is still sheriff, right? I seem to be repeating a theme here, but WTF?
    5. I don’t care about gay love scenes anymore than I do hetero love scenes, I liked the other James more. I think he was more attractive. Just my taste & opinion, so this isn’t a question. It’s a comment. No theme. However, a shout out to you, Original James! You’re an actor. It’s called acting, and if you want to be one, then you better start accepting jobs that come your way or go back to waiting tables.
    6. Last one. Is Pam going around the world only to find Eric at Fangtasia and suffering from Hep-V? Was the final death of Tara just a red herring and the death of a major character is Eric? WTF? On the other hand, I can’t blame him. For the last few seasons, I’ve been repeatedly exclaiming “Kill me,” at the absurdity of what was once such a thrilling, fun, and exciting TV show. Now, in the words of Sookie, “Must be Sunday!”

I got it from this site: http://trueblood.wikia.com/wiki/Season_7
Interesting theory about a Hep-V Tara; that would account for crazy Lettie-Mae saying she’s dead.
I don’t know if the rumors about the other James are true. LOL @ your waiting tables comment. Personally, my own politics on the matter are influenced by the fact that my best friend in the world is gay and I was the only person with his husband (who had been his partner for more than a decade) and he when they were finally given the same rights I’ve had since I was 18–to marry as I chose. Anyway, I can understand if someone didn’t feel confident enough to do a gay scene. But that means that his acting choices will be lessened (just as some actors don’t do nudity). I like Alexander Skarsgard’s obvious approach: if he likes a role and it happens to include homoerotic scenes, he just rolls with it and kicks ass.
As for Eric dying–I wouldn’t be surprised. Tara will likely die too (if she’s not dead already). But I can’t help but to be frightened that we will get a crazed Hep-V Eric as some point and either Sookie or Bill will be “forced” to kill him. Sigh. And Sookie will be so damaged that Bill will turn her or something like that. I’m certain that idiocy will abound.

Thanks. I didn’t return to the Wiki this year. I honestly didn’t think it was active anymore, but since it went to the new admins., it’s not compatible with IE.
Good point about the actors & nude scenes. We have friends who recently married just over the border of PA in NY, and two weeks later, marriage became legal in PA. Either way, we’re very happy for them. It’s not like we heteros can tell people how to be married with an ever-increasing divorce rate.
I hope you had a lovely evening out!
Time to get on with the TB stuff!

Did you happen to notice the entry dates from the diary Sookie was reading? If I’m not mistaken, the dates were 2002, 2012, and then the last two were 2011. They were out of order. If you estimate the time frame of TB, they’re somewhere in 2012. (We did this stupid stuff on the Wiki. God knows why.) Um. The Hep-V vamps have been around how long? 6-8 months?

Suspending more belief, wouldn’t you think nearly burning up as he did at the end of last season would kill anything lying dormant within him? I just finished Book #13 and I can’t believe how far TB is from the actual books. It’s so stupid. I hate Sookie. I hated Tara. Bill is a jackass. The only good characters are Eric, Pam, and Lala – who died in the first book. I started watching the series after reading most of the books (yeah, I binged for a while) and I almost stopped watching because it was so ridiculous … but Eric and Pam were worth my time. This last episode did me in, however. What a fucking horrible story line for both of them … and Sookie is such a poor representation of a strong woman – I really do hate her. Okay – rant over. I’ll still watch this season just so I can bitch about it. LOL

    kinnik says:
    June 29, 2014 at 7:47 pm
and like last week, Pam didn’t feel Tara, how could she have NOT felt Eric in pain? Is she just numb or they just aren’t showing it? Eric was in a lot of pain, (grief and sadness b/c he was watching it of course) while Nora was sick and she was obviously in pain and he was sharing it. Ummm, hello? Bond anyone?

WTF was with Sookie and the diary and the flashback with her putting the dress on. So cheesy. I wanted to close my laptop in disgust.
As for Jason/Eric while Alex and Ryan did a great job it was complete pandering. I’ve noticed that a few sites have people discussing that scene as opposed to the all important reveal of Eric infected with Hep V. It’s like they included the dream because they knew it would distract the shallow part of the audience which they think 99% of Eric fans are. 😡
Also, how was Willa able to wake up so easily when Lettie Mae went to her and how the Fangtasia Vamps had someone on duty to make sure they stayed awake for the day? It makes no sense canon wise. They’re meant to be dead for the day not having a nap like humans!
I think the best part of the episode was that Bill featured for less than a minute.

    msbuffy says:

Many of the love scenes have just that, pandering. I always thought the scene with Jason and Maudette in the very first episode was overdoing the “adult vampire show” by showing off how gratuitous they could get. The scenes don’t offend, but the pandering does.
    Reply
    maithanroisin says:

Yeah, I definitely agree that most of the love scenes are pandering. What mostly annoyed me about it was that the actual gay or bisexual couples on the show can not get screen-time for a love scene.
Plus it would have made more sense narratively if it featured in the season 6 finale. If Erics’ blood can last that long then surely Sookie still has the odd dream about Eric?!

Yep. They are disregarding the canon the have established over the last few seasons all for the sake of having Sookie lose her agency so Bill can have control over her again and manipulate the situation so she thinks she’s in love again.

Maybe not because didn’t she take some of Warlow’s blood last season? He was 5-thousand-years old & that trumps Eric since he’s a mere babe in his Buster Browns at 1,000. After all, it took him all that time to kill Russell & he was 3,000 years old!
You’re right though, it would have made more sense it happened at the end of the season, but they did the same thing when Sam had Bill’s blood. Their scene was in the beginning of
Season 3 and I don’t get why it needed to be repeated only with the other male leads. Again, it’s pandering. You know, I never really noticed the LGBT couples couldn’t get screen time. There seemed to be many same sex couples on the show. Some things just go right over my head!

Jason had Warlows’ blood too when he passed out at the beginning of the last season so I would have thought the same would be true there that Warlows’ blood would overpower Erics.

That’s right! Same thing. They’ve got more holes than the Swiss cheese that lurks in my brain. I give up! I’m just going with it & I’m going to find all the humor possible in every episode. For instance, Maxine Fortenberry aiming & shooting an unloaded gun at the oldest computer screen left on the planet as she says something like “Die you fuckers!” Mama Fortenberry dropped the F-bomb! What would Hoyt and the good, church-going folks of BT say? Oh, wait a minute! They were all there with her practicing their 2nd Amendment rights to be idiots. Like Kat said, don’t they already HAVE guns and ammo?

So glad I didn’t get the subscription now, and I don’t even feel sorry for it anymore. I’ll add infecting Eric with Hep-V to the long list of stupid things the writers have done.

It was so awesome to see all the participators here last night! I’m sorry I missed y’all, but I’m not really sorry I had to delay watching the show. The party I went to was fun and entertaining. The show as not.
    Here are my thoughts.
    What I loved:
Nothing. Any sympathy I had for Sookie was “gone with the wind” when she read that diary. First of all, it was immediately “all about HER.” And I hate a selfish Sookie. “I just wanna help the town.” Whatever Sookie.
    What I liked:
    1. Lafayette telling Lettie Mae some “truths.”
    2. Seeing Eric in any capacity is better than not seeing any of him.
    3. Seeing Bill in a very small dosage. I didn’t miss him.
Who I really don’t care about anymore:
    1. Sam–sorry, but I just didn’t care when he was worried about his child. His character just does nothing for me anymore.
    2. Willa–I never cared about you much, but you’re kinda useless and not that smart.
Okay…Now for the good bits….and rants.
What left me scratching my head or feeling sick to my stomach:
    1. The Eric/Jason scene: First, lemme just say that it turned me on a little. I am not shy about admitting that two beautiful men in such a scene is appealing to my “libido.” And Alexander and Ryan did well in the scene. I believed their chemistry so much more than I believed Sookie and Alcide’s later on. Yes–Eric and Jason getting into a little “scuffle” was hot (to me–though I know that some of you were put off by it). But…..
what the fuck? How could Jason still have Eric’s blood in him? By the end of the episode, Sookie is at Bill’s doorstep asking if he can still feel her with his blood. And we saw previews of her drinking from him (umm—don’t let people drink while driving, Bill). How could Sookie need more blood, while Jason has plenty to “dream on?” It’s this kind of lack of consistency and thinking about things that frustrates me so much. TB just changes the rules whenever it wants, and it pisses me off. I read an interview about the episode that claims the show creators felt they “owed us a blood dream” and it just fit into this season better. I might believe that IF six months hadn’t gone by. Sooooo that means that the purpose of the scene was what? To distract us from the fact TIIC are decimating the real Eric? To just offer a male/male scene in order to be “hip” and “with the times?” To check another couple off their list of “everybody should hook up before the end of the show?” If so, can we skip the Eric/Andy pairing? And I don’t need to see Sookie/Jane Bodehouse. And I’m okay living my life without enduring Maxine/Jason.
    2. The whole jaunt into the other town. They spent so much time there, and NOTHING happened. I didn’t learn anything I didn’t know. So the Hep-V vamps attack until they decimate a town…I sorta would have guessed that without the need to go to a different town. So that leads me to….
    3. The Diary of woman whose name I already forgot. As I said above, this scene totally killed any sympathy and good feelings I’d had for Sookie last week. Immediately, she was thinking of herself. And–instead of learning from the past–we all know that she’s going to repeat patterns and mistakes–just like the girl in the diary. And then we get the “memory” of Sookie getting ready for her non-date (including red bra/date bra). Alcide made me cheer when he said what I always think: Sookie’s first is like a lot of people’s firsts. You fall hard and fast, and it usually goes all to hell. But Sookie, unlike most, never seems to learn.
    4. Tara on a cross with a snake and speaking tongues. I’m guessing they want me to pick up on some religious imagery. [this is my sarcastic face] Hey, Lettie Mae. Lemme save you some effort and thought: Tara’s trying to “save” you by reminding you of the “temptation” of drugs. But since she’s a bitch, she’s going to warn you in tongues? Geez! WHY? I don’t need for Lettie Mae (a secondary character) to get a big storyline. I don’t even know how to express my discontent that her story is going to be more “developed”–if you can call it that–than Eric’s.
    5. The Redneck vigilante brigade. Thanks for taking the stereotype of non-thinking Southerners “gettin’ their guns” and forming a “mob” and running with it. I get that that kind of people exist (and Maxine was amusing in an over-the-top way), but can’t you do a little better? The people go from helping out Arlene to being whipped up into a frenzy in five minutes. That’s just simplistic, HBO. Poorly done! Now–I could get behind the idea of people arming themselves against the Hep-V vamps, but there are major “issues.” First, most of the people would already have guns. Did I miss why they didn’t? The police cannot take them away. The mayor couldn’t have taken them. WHATEVER.
    6. The Fangtasia basement scenes: between the town I didn’t care about and the Fangtasia basement scenes, most of the episode was boring. An old teacher vamp? Arlene was okay in these scenes, but, again, we spent so much time with these scenes! I got bored.
    7. Vamp nappers. So sick vampires have the ability to just powernap? I guess they are trying to sell that these vamps have to keep feeding–even in the day–in order to live (which doesn’t make sense. Bill healed from the sun when he was in the ground for the day–remember writers?). Anyway–we are supposed to buy that vamps (even sick and half-deranged ones) have the ability to not die for the day. And where were their “bleeds?” Dude! Eric and Pam get the bleeds when they are awake during the day. But not the Hep-V vamps, Jessica, and Willa—who can be stirred REALLY easily, by the way. RIDICULOUS!
    8. Eric with Hep-V. I knew they were gonna do this based on spoilers and leaked photos. But….come on! EMO ERIC? He got V on purpose? Way to brutalize a beloved character! The fact that Eric has Hep-V doesn’t mean automatically that he’s gonna die (After all, Bill has to be redeemed somehow, and I’m guessing it’s by either curing or killing Eric to “save” Sookie.), but things don’t look good for the Viking. And if they kill him off again, it’s just to do it and give a big “fuck you” to the fans. Heck–they will likely try to sell it as Eric “redeeming” himself by being a martyr of some kind. LOL. As if Eric “needs” redemption…They try to paint him as “bad,” But what has he EVER done that is “bad?” I’m bracing for the idiocy TIIC perpetrate against Eric.
    9. Sookie “lying” to Alcide and running to Bill. The idea that Sookie, who was so doubtful of her feelings b/c of the blood (in Season 4), is going to take some of Bill’s is ludicrous! And I bet you that she won’t even question why she’s suddenly “in love” with him again once she does. Yep—TB Sookie cannot be taught! She’s worse than book Sook! I wonder if Bill will “take advantage.” No, Sookie, don’t talk to your boyfriend about what is likely an asinine, ill-thought-out plan that you have cooked up to “save” Bon Temps. Whatever that plan may be. And be sure to put on that red bra and run straight to the vampire whose every action toward you has included duplicity. Well done, Sookie.
Okay–so I’m done ranting. Based on the previews, I am certain that things are going to get worse. I am with the rest of you who said that we’d better drink both BEFORE AND DURING the show next week.
Again, thanks for everyone who’s here commiserating with me. You make things bearable–barely.

But I will say this: Even with Hep-V, Eric is smoldering hot.

You’re killin’ me! I haven’t laughed so hard in such a long time! That was a great rant. The lack of continuity drives me nuts, but I’d bet that as a writer it probably frustrates you more. Drinking next week will done, but I’m a lightweight! I watched the previews too. Oh my.

I drank so much I forgot half the episode. I had to watch it again last night. All I can say is….yawn.
