ElfChef: BEHOLDEN

Sorry I haven’t done one of these in a while.  I’ve been too focused on writing and work to do much reading, but this story was recently completed, and I had been following it.  If you haven’t checked it out, I definitely would—–but my advice is to buy some kleenex first because this story is ALL ANGST.

😉

Beholden by ElfChef

This is a very creative piece that re-imagines Eric’s powers as well as the repercussions of being Appius’s child.  However, the Eric in this story is recognizable as the cold, clever, controlled creature what we so love to see adapting to the “newness” of Sookie and love itself.  The Sookie in this piece transforms just as much as Eric, and her journey is just as hard–maybe harder in some ways.  However, when ElfChef is speaking from Eric’s POV the story is at its strongest (in my opinion).  The premise of the story is an arranged marriage leading to true love, but the way this author gets us there is angst at its best.  Again, I suggest kleenex.  (You’ll understand the images I’m using for this story after you read it.)  😉

    GREAT! It is not for the faint of heart, but it seems right up your alley, Kristie. Thanks for letting ElfChef know that I am spreading the word.

    I was pimping it on SVM/TB Library on Facebook. The recommendations are flying thick and fast over there.
    ElfChef is a dynamite writer.

    I agree! I don’t do much facebooking. (And I can’t believe I just turned “facebook” into a gerund). 🙂
    The story is lovely thought. I usually wait until something is done until I read it, but ElfChef was so consistent with this (and I loved her other stuff so much) that I was staying up with it. It was definitely not a disappointment!

    LOL–I thought that MY stories were your crack. 😉 Oh well–I will settle for being your METH or you tall glass of wine on a long summer’s evening. Good news about the sequel! Fingers crossed.

    Your stories are my “crack pipe” – they are essential! LOL
    **disclaimer – I have no real knowledge of crack or pipes..just a nerdy love of words and analogies….

    So much review & story love! ElfChef & I had a great time working on “Beholden.” We do this by email & we’re burning up the ‘net working on a new fic for all of you! She sent me an email about “the recommendation link”, Kat! I told her I already had the email, thinking you were recommending some great fics for us! Little did I know! LOL! Now I know why the email wasn’t detailed! Surprise! 🙂
    It’s such a thrill to read your review, Kat, and I love the images you put up to go with it. They are perfect to keep in mind while reading the story. I can’t wait to tell ElfChef about all the love she’s getting! Treewitch, thanks for the FB pimping! You’re all so wonderful, and I’m so grateful to you for helping to boost her confidence! This woman can write!

    She definitely can. And I hope that there is a sequel in the works, but I like anything that ElfChef does. And it is definitely easy to pimp the good stuff. I’m glad you liked the images that I chose. The one with A. Skars and the matches was so appropriate. 😉

    Wow…is all I can say. I want to jump for joy and cry and scream and dance (in that order) I can’r believe this response this story got. It makes all the hard work seem like nothing because I shared it with all you great people.
    @MistressCinder “I I shouldn’t support addiction but I support yours.”
    @Treewitch703 “PIMP ME AWAY!”
    @Californiakat1564 “THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!”
    @padore “SAY, YES TO DRUGS! NO TO REHAB!”
    There are families that don’t offer this much love and support and so I definitely feel blessed.

    Wow. That has some big angst! Usually it resolves pretty quickly, and thankfully has a HEA 🙂
