Bloody Countdown

So…

Today is the day the final season begins, and I’m feeling “MEH” about it.  However, I will be here tonight, blogging my complaints.  Many of you have said you don’t do Twitter (neither do I), so please join me here if you watch tonight (or after).

But if you don’t want spoilers–then don’t read tonight’s blog until after you have watched.

And..remember..there’s a drinking game involved for those who wish to partake.  🙂

Here’s how it will work.

1. I’ll be watching at 6:00 p.m. (Pacific Time); that’s 9:00 p.m. Eastern time in the U.S.

2. I’ll be typing my feelings about what I see (just to get us started), and–at about 6:10–I’ll post the first ones.  After that, we can all use the “comments” section to comment on the clusterfrackis that is certain to appear before us.  Of course, we can discuss what we like too–if anything…  But I’m not holding out any hope for that.  I’m not even counting on a 5 second glance at Eric tonight.  Sigh.

3. Tonight’s drinking game: take a drink anytime Bill says or implies that he’s the best thing for Sookie.  (And–if you really wanna get drunk–take another shot anytime he looks constipated.  I swear–whoever suggested that Stephen Moyer play Bill with “that” expression on his face should be staked.  I mean–Stephen’s not my particular cup of tea, but he’s not unattractive.  But “that” constipated/face-twisty/pants-too-tight look is NOT his friend.)

Bill

Eat something with fiber, Bill. Fiber is your friend.
Eat something with fiber, Bill. Fiber is your friend.

So–if you want to rant and rave, and eek out some fun from this season—even if it’s just by making fun of the violinists still playing on the Titanic—then join me here…tonight.

I’ll have my drink poured and ready.

CKat

I think that fans are incredibly loyal when the product continues being good. Hell–even when I don’t like a storyline, I stay loyal to something when I can see its merits. But I think that fans don’t want to see the characters they have come to love continually gutted and glossed. I know I’m tired of seeing what should have been a wonderful, strong female lead falling all over herself when it comes to her feelings for a manipulative vampire whose plan to have her beaten up was only the beginning of his abuse. Meanwhile, I’ve seen next to no change or redemption in Bill’s character. He’s just as prone to blame everyone other than himself as always, while he sits securely in his martyr-chair.
I think that TB has lost viewers (just like CH lost readers) b/c women, who are the bulk of the books’ fans, I’d imagine, began to recognize that the heroine was taking us back to a time when women were taught to accept that they should forgive and forget about abuse b/c the abuser said he was “sorry.” (ala Luke and Laura) As a woman in 2014, I want my heroines to go forward with intelligence. Forgiveness is okay, but self-awareness and the desire to grow are needed too. Sadly, Sookie seemed to lose those in the books, and I fear she will lose them in the show too when she gets back together with a truly unchanged Bill. Sigh.
Plus, as Fonzie might say, it’s probably better to end the show when the shark’s been jumped.

I’m one of those readers/viewers you mentioned above. I did not read the last CH book and I stopped watching TB after Eric gave Sookie her house back and they, basically, said goodbye. I have no desire to see anymore of this show after the clusterfuck of the last book and I feel that TB will just compound it with even more fuckery. Why bother? I have better things to do with that TV time.

I can’t say I blame you. I get so much more enjoyment out of fanfiction anyway! At least, there, I find stories that stay consistent to character and strive to accomplish character growth.

Absolutely! We’re all intelligent people here, we want to see character growth and development in our books, television shows, and our fanfiction.
I love how TB tosses naked Eric to distract us from the shitty writing. I am not averse to naked Eric but there has to be context. I still shake my head about how they teased Askars’ frontal nudity for the last episode neglecting to mention he’d be on fire! LOL.
Enjoy your drinks tonight. I’m in San Diego so I’ll be enjoying the sunshine. 🙂

I’m with ya! I stuck around about two episodes beyond that. When Eric turned Willa and first went in to “vamp-camp”. That was the end for me. And I dropped out of the books after the CF with Appius. I planned on getting the next book, but saw enough spoilers before I did that I was convinced I didn’t want to waste the money.

I can’t watch it until it’s all said and done I think. Not even for fun. Alan Ball and company ruined what was a good show by dumbing down their heroine to forgive abuse and sleep with half the guys in town. In the process she also kicked to the curb, the only man that ever loved her for what she was, and not an idealized version of who he wanted her to be (Eric, as opposed to Bill). The cherry on this chocolate sundae to me is the producers thinking that viewers would like to see this as a Bill/Sookie “love story” and take it back to their beginnings. I agree with some who have said that they think the personal relationship of Steve and Anna got mixed in with the on screen relationship of Bill/Sookie. Even C. Harris knew they did not belong together, although I hated how she ended the story as well. On a side note— FYI—- I have read that we will not see Eric until the third episode. Don’t know if this is true or not. Have fun tonight.

Yeah, I was toying with the idea of watching this season, but all the comments from the head honchos about the Beehl/Sookie “love” story being the “heart” of the show have just made me want to hurl. Ugh.
And, have you noticed, how they’re using ASkars in all the commercials for the show, interviews, etc, to hawk the season, even though he’ll probably hardly be in it at all?! Bait and freaking switch!

Kat, have you seen the “Dear True Blood, Here’s why we’re breaking up with you” article that came out yesterday? It’s absolutely spot on. Although it doesn’t mention the fact that no-one wants to see Sookie end up with Beehl except for the morons who run the show and Stephen and Anna.
I plan on joining in tonight and have a pitcher of margaritas ready, although I still don’t think I’m going to actually watch the show. I don’t want them to get credit for my viewership. The only reason I still have HBO right now, is cause I haven’t cancelled it yet following the end of GOT last week….. Maybe once Askars shows up…..

Yeah, I looked at the comments/predictions on Season Seven and decided the final season wasn’t worth asking my parents to pay the HBO subscription fee. I like redemption stories when done right (i.e. Cole Turner from “Charmed” who at least owned up to the fact that what he did was wrong and legitimately tried to make up for it). Heck I even felt a LITTLE sorry for a dark character from another TV series when he was coerced into sex and had been abused as a kid. Bill is a selfish fake southern gentlemen who constantly takes advantage of Sookie and almost drains her in the trunk. He is a terrible maker to Jessica, and pretty much puts all the blame on other people. I’m kind of disappointed, like I arrived at this great party that went bad and is sinking faster than the Lusitania. At least, y’all will write some great fanfiction to “fix” things.

It was confirmed weeks ago that ASkars won’t be in the first two episodes because he was finishing a movie shoot at the time TB began filming those episodes. I guess it makes sense in a way since whether he met the final death or not is supposed to be a “mystery.” Snort. I canceled our HBO last Christmas, but just got HBOGo & that also gave me HBO OnDemand so that’s how I’ll watch it tonight. If I can stay up that long.

I honestly cannot understand with only 10 eps this season why they don’t bring him in until #3. Just plain stupid. I mean, I get that his schedule conflicted, but they could have filmed his scenes later if they actually wrote him into it. UGH.

And why are they telling so much of the story this year ahead of time with all the interviews, etc.? It’s almost like they’re telling us there’s no point in watching if you don’t want to see a “love story” between Bill & Sookie so we can’t complain later since they told us what to expect.

You Kinnik have hit the nail on the head. All they care about is Sookie and Bill’s “love story”. I’m convinced that Alan Ball had a man-crush on Bill and that’s why he wrote things the way he did.

LOL I agree completely. I should probably start getting my drink on early. The shows in an hour and I’m already getting aggravated. Seriously, why the hell are we supposed to be in “suspense” about his fate when 6 flipping months have passed? It took him 5 minutes to heal from being burned outside Fangtasia. Surely, he would have healed from a very severe burning long before 6 months was over. And why didn’t Sookie feel anything when he burned on the mountain top? They were bonded for crying out loud! Sorry for the ramble, geeeez!

I think it makes sense, sort of. With having moved the time period up 6 months, and Pam still not having returned, I think that it makes it appear as though she’s with Eric while he’s healing. It had to take a long time for him to heal. I’m also thinking that she may be having a hard time getting him to return to the States, and could possibly be using Willa as incentive. I can just hear Pam berating Eric for being such a lousy Maker to Willa, and, in turn, creating a lousy Maker in Pam for having deserted Tara. So it doesn’t matter if Eric is actually shown tonight or not, Pam can still make comments that he can respond to with grunts.
    It could happen…
