I just have to throw a snort and a giggle into the world this morning.
Almost as soon as I saw Eric “burning” at the end of Season 6, I thought AVALANCHE. And then I wrote “Snjóflóð!”–which means “Avalanche!” in Old Norse/Icelandic. Now–I’m not going to claim that the writers stole the idea from me. Goodness knows I’ve seen the idea in more places than my story for the last year, but I am going to say this–“I knew it!”
And just because they did my Eric/Sookie loving heart good, let me share these:
Undeniable emotional reaction.
Look at “poor” Bill, whose internal monologue is this: “How is he hotter than me even with Hep-V? Hey, that rhymes.”
It’s significant that Sookie spends most of this episode trying not to fall apart, trying to be strong. And here’s the moment when she lets herself be vulnerable. It’s her most raw expression of sorrow over Alcide b/c it’s not mixed with guilt (over how he died or b/c he loved her more). It’s a moment of her being sad that she’s lost someone she cared deeply about. And Eric put aside his frustration–and just held her. Two word spoken twice: “I’m sorry.” And–unlike Bill–we know he is. He doesn’t see Alcide’s death as a path clearer (which Bill obviously does). Eric is sincerely sorry b/c Sookie’s in pain. It’s funny that no matter what TIIC try to do to prop up Bill and strike down Eric, moments like this have more heart than anything else in the show combined.
