I’ve not made an official recommendation for a while because the people at the Writers’ Directory are so awesome at it, but I’m feeling compelled today.
The author, dream7me7to7sleep, has written many wonderful stories, but the one I’d like to celebrate right now is Never End.
In this story, you will find a Sookie who is hard to understand: for readers and for Eric. She is both one of the strongest Sookies I’ve seen written and one of the most vulnerable. What set her apart for me the most was her pragmatism. With very little “emotional intelligence” at the beginning, she is “negotiating” her existence as a telepathic cop as best she can. She is also trying to come to terms with the fact that she is capable of loving–let alone being loved.
It was interesting to see this Sookie have to practically trick herself into falling in love with our favorite Viking (though he certainly had a hand in “encouraging” the situation “behind the scenes”). I’ll admit that there was an “odd” turn toward a more mythic world in the end, and I liked the earlier “realness” of the story better; however, I could tell what the author was doing: completely obliterating Sookie’s little claustrophobic life by making it truly HUGE! (You’ll see what I mean when you read.) Thus, after thinking about it, I could get behind the “shift” that the author took.
Anyway, I want to highly recommend Never End. If I were deciding awards this year, it would be one of my winners for best re-imagining of the SVM/TB world. If you haven’t read it, check it out! If you have, be sure to share the love with the author!
