Episode 7.8: “Almost Home”

Hello, fellow fearless watchers!

I have good news/bad news.

First, the bad news: I won’t be with you all “live” tonight.  I hope this doesn’t stop you from posting though.  As soon as I can, I’ll catch up w/ what you said and post.

The good news?  I’ll still be watching and drinking.  I have a couple of friends who invited me over tonight watch w/ them (and since the hubby’s out of town and I don’t cook), they also offered homemade mac and cheese!  So–guess where I’ll be?  Don’t worry though.  I will be drinking at every moment of idiocy, along w/ you.

Tonight’s game: Drink whenever Bill is presenting himself or presented as a martyr figure.  (And whenever you just need to.)

Episode description:

With his prey in sight, Eric reconsiders his end-game strategies against Sarah. Sookie puts her life at risk in hopes of saving Bill. Lettie Mae and Lafayette urge Reverend Daniels to join them in their V-fueled search for Tara. Violet eyes payback against those who betrayed her, while an old love is reborn for others.

Item 1: Wait, Eric had an “end game” strategy?  Nope, TIIC have been portraying him as fly by the seat of his pants, thoughtless this season.  Will we get real Eric-fucking-Northman strategizing?  I doubt it.  He’d compare too favorably to Bill then.  And we ALL know Bill’s the biggest “strategist.”  Sigh.

Item 2: Let’s pretend we don’t see that one–kay?

Item 3: The Tara storyline is truly ridiculous.  Lala has better stuff to do!!!!  He needs to just go around to everyone left in town, spill his wisdom, and then tell them to kiss his fine, fabulous ass as he leaves town w/ James.

Item 4: Violet and payback.  Sigh.  I really find I don’t care.

Item 5: Old love?  Hoyt and Jessica–because Jason and Jessica never get a real chance on this fuckin’ show.

I am nonplussed and not hopeful that I’ll see much I like tonight.  So–by the end of it–we’ll be lucky if I see straight at all.  No worries though.  I within stumbling distance of my friends’ house, so I won’t be driving in that state.

Until I can join you, have fun!

And because we need it, focus on this.

I am thinking that the end game strategies Eric is reconsidering is killing Sarah. Knowing that she’s the cure, he probably won’t be killing her once he finds her. I am also wondering if the old love being described is the one between Jason and Jessica. Nothing else from the summary piques my interest.

Have a good time with your friends.

Same here, and I haven’t even been watching live this season. Just reading y’all’s comments. Maybe I should re-read fanfics where Behl meets the true death. That should be fun. 😉

I’ll likely watch though so my daughter & I have something to laugh about. She hates Bill too, and, of course, LOVES Eric, as if that’s anything new! It’s fun to have something to share!

I read some spoilers on spoilertv.com and they say that Sookie and Bill will have a long conversation in this episode 😦 😦 I wish that the old love being reborn is not them…
I am not sure the writers understand the concept of Eric as a strategist or even Eric having lived/un-lived for a thousand years. It has been a trend this season to portray him as emotional, hair-triggered and thoughtless. That’s as far from canon as the writers can get. If anything, Eric never showed emotion, which was the trouble with his and Sookie’s relationship in the books.
Oh well we all know this.
They also said that it will be revealed what Sophie Ann wanted with Sookie. Yeah like that’s a big revelation!
Getting less and lesser excited about tonight’s episode.

Bill will probably pass along a crap load saying that Sophie-Ann (because of him) was going to let her be “free.” Or he’ll spew out a horror and then tell Sookie how he was “endangering” himself to delay in bringing Sookie to the queen. And Sookie will fall hook, line, and sinker.

yep…guess that will be their big talk!
Oh and she’s already ‘fallen’ lower than human beings can go, what with her running over to have sex with Bill and all.

Just thinkin’, but with all the Bill worship going on in the show, it is possible that Bill reveals some part of Sophie Ann’s plan that proves Eric knew about this ‘procurement of Sookie’ assignment!

    I will be watching tomorrow.
I read somewhere that there will be no more Sookie/Behl sex scenes thankfully so at least I know my stomach will be safe from that but I doubt it will be from whatever lies and Behlshit he tells Sucker I mean Sookie..ooops!

Which is kind of weird since in real life AP and SM are MARRIED, so you’d think the sex scenes between them would be authentic.

I totally agree! Lettie Mae was an abusive parent. There’s no excuse for that. Yes, it’s horrible that she was abused too. However, she “paid it forward” to her child! And double agreement about Lala. He absolutely should be given a wonderful ending. But he was almost silent last night.

I would be tooootally okay with that too! So what if Sookie ‘like totally hates his fuckin’ gut like forever’ if Bill does and she find out Eric knew the cure! As if hating his guts is worse than Eric having to witness the constipatedfaced Southern gent & the moronic Southern mushroom making never ending moony faces at each other is better? Oh yeah, and still saving her ass when Bill gets her into another stupid sitch! Or how about a lifetime of *feeling* Sookie having unsatisfying guilt sex with Beehl because Eric stupidly “became one” with a blonde pet rock?

Truly. I can’t even believe it happened, but Bill does like that martyr hat. From upcoming scenes, he appears to be cured, and it looks as if Eric & Sookie may be sharing a tender moment or two…but then who knows with her? She just might be giving away celebratory bangs.

LOL–I know. I was thinking this: what 4 people would I like to see tortured by Violet? Bill, Sookie (they’ve ruined her), Lettie Mae (because a child abuser might deserve a chance to change, but an abused child should never be the one to take the blame!), and let’s throw in James for giving out blood like candy.

I know. Anticlimactic. And really disturbing.
“Momma–sorry I didn’t kill Daddy when he was beating you. It’s obviously my fault that YOU became an alcoholic that beat me and treated me like shit for years. That’s on me, Momma–not you.”

Disturbing! I think that was the worst thing (as far as messages) that this show has ever done. And, of course, we needed the Tara on the cross w/ a snake in order to see that????

To give Tara and her mother closure, which they could have done in 30 seconds before the killed off Tara – off screen without all the V trips.

Yeah, I get the closure thing, but really, who cares? I don’t think many (if anyone at all) cared about that. You’re right; it could have been done in a very short bit without all the V trips. I love seeing LaLa onscreen though – that’s never a waste! I have to admit that this James grew on me, and he sure is pretty!

I didn’t care about it enough for it to go on for as long as it did. It would have been nice to see them get closure but it easily could have been done by adding 30 more second at the end of the last season when Tara fed from her mother.

The guy who plays James used to be in a soap opera I watch. He’s not too bad to look at lol.

They should have left them off w/ that beautiful scene at the end of last season where Lettie Mae fed Tara. That scene was incredible by both actresses, and it made sense. It was Lettie Mae taking responsibility for being an abusive parent for so long. And it was about Tara learning to forgive and give her mother a chance to actually redeem herself in a meaningful way. What we saw this season just negates all that in my opinion. And that’s sad b/c that scene last season was lovely.

I know. It’s kinda a classic case as the abused feels all the guilt as if it was their own fault they got abused. The closure should have been done in a much different way. As it stands…just a waste of time with a poor message.

I’m not shaming. I’m just being silly. She’s had sex with 3 men in the course of 7 seasons on the show that take place in over a 2 year time period. I don’t really believe that makes her or anyone a “slut.” I’m simply being silly because that’s how I roll, and it’s a pitiful season. Her character is beyond ridiculous. I’m sorry if you were offended.

Ok, fair enough. I just hate that word being banded about even jokingly.
I agree her character has gotten beyond ridiculous now. She’s merely a prop for Bill now and I hate that he is going to try and act all noble now by trying to convince her to get rid of her light when he used her like a juicebox for a long time and waited 3 seasons to admit the truth (under duress) of what she was.

Oh, agreed! Bill acting noble is always a sign that he’s up to something! Her character (as it’s written) is acting in such a way that it’s maddening which is why I was being silly using that word to describe her behavior. As I told kinnik, Eric came back FOR her once he was cured, and she’s so relieved & happy for him for like all of 10 seconds; she then goes off on a rant about how HE has to SAVE Bill because he’s “dyin” as she’s naked & wrapped in a sheet. no less, and on & on. This just blew me away, especially given the way she reacted to Eric having Hep-V. (And what about Alcide, remember him?) She has Bill’s (infected) blood and she’s forgotten everything he did to her, in a matter of hours? Yeah, I usually just roll with things, but that was too much. 6 months prior (last season) she was calling him a motherfucki’ monster! If that doesn’t speak true love, I don’t what does! Juicebox Sookie, LOL!

That scene is bugging, even this morning! It’s like Sookie’s happy for Eric for all of 10 seconds, and then she just discards the miracle of it and tells him he’s got to heal Bill because “He’s dyin!’” Why the hell would Eric care? After everything that’s gone on between him & Bill? Eric came back for Sookie, not to save Bill. Grr…

It made me sad when Eric said he came to tell her he was going to be fine because he thought she’d want to know….he, like us, really felt they had a connection in ep 4 and that she would care at all that he was healed. There could have been a great moment between them. You could see it on his face, but they had her ruin it too quickly bringing up Bill. They could have given the characters just a few more moments, before she even remembered about him.

She doesn’t care. She’s back on Bill crack and jonesing. As long as Bill can be saved Sookie doesn’t care who falls. LaLa was right about her being the angel of death. She is. All her speeches about “not wantin’ any’un to die ’cause of her” was bullshit. I hope the entirety of Bon Temps is killed off, Sookie is the last person standing….she drives to Fangtasia to spread’em for Eric and he FINALLY turns around and tells her ‘not if you were the last woman around…oh, that’s right, you are & frankly my dear I don’t give a damn’ 😉

yeah, some how since Bill wants to be a martyr for Sookie , she will blame Eric that he put him up to it because of the pissing match of who loves Sookie the most… that Eric got the cure to be with Sookie because she showed she cared and Bill won’t be cured because he would die to show her how much he loves her. some BS like that…

Ok, it was quick, as always, but here’s what we saw…

Eric says he came for Sookie.
Sookie invites Eric into her house.
Bill says they are all death and they are no good for her.
Eric takes off with Sookie in his arms, as in flies off. I think that’s the first time (outside of fanfic) that she’s flown.

Can’t remember what else, I was only focusing on Eric. What did I miss? Anyone?

In a Buckner interview he said there was something big that happens with Sookie and Eric that sets up an “exciting” arc for Sookie towards the end of the season which leads to the ending. I’ve been waiting and waiting it looks to be here. I decided as soon as Bill had the veins it would be Eric saving/finding the cure for Bill at Sookie begging. Now I’m all hmmmm.

Actually, in the interview he said the ERIC would not try to rekindle things. Nothing was said about SOOKIE doing the rekindling. I’m all about the way things have been worded this season.

so far, a lot of my predictions are way off while others have come good. i will admit though, I am starting to think that maybe Sookie won’t end up with either. But if we have an “It was all a dream” ending, I will shoot someone.

Somebody did post somewhere that they believe everything we’ve seen is either a) a hallucination from Sookie as she lay dying after being beaten by the Rattrays or b) a blood induced hallucination after Bill fed her his blood after being beaten by the rattrays,

again, people will be punched in the knads if this is true

Oh, I must have misread. I thought he said that Eric will decide he’s not right for her.

Maybe he will recognize that although she was in a robe at Bill’s house and they obviously were intimate, that it was her guilt and not her true feelings…wait, that only happens in fanfic. LOL

I agree though, if it’s a dream or a hallucination, it will be very disappointing. I did read somewhere, who knows where anymore, that CH is supposed to make an appearance, but I’m hoping that it is like the appearances that Stephenie Meyer made in the Twilight movies…as an extra.

But again, I can’t even guess. All I believe at this point, is that they are playing with us, but I’ll take it in next week’s ep.

It’s infinitely worrisome Ball & Buckey say they ‘follow the spirit of the books’ related to the final 3 SVM books & final 3 TB episodes:

Dead Reckoning vs TB “Almost Home”:
DR: Sookie breaks the bond and “loves Eric all on her own”. Our shipper hearts soared!!!
TB: Sookie in white dress flys off with Eric. Our shipper hearts soar!

Dead Locked vs TB “Love Is To Die”
DL: All was good..until it all went bad. But we still had hope.
TB: ??? I’m betting Eric turns/tries to turn Sookie. Betting it will also end with a carrot of hope dangling in front of us all

Dead Ever After vs TB “Thank You”:
DEA: who THE FUCK are these characters?! And CH ripped us to shreds.
TB: ??? I expect more of a ‘who the fuck cares’ reaction for TBs end. The writer of the finale is being withheld & we know CH makes an appearance…my bet is she writes the finale…and rips our hearts to shreds.

Maybe it’s me thinking too hard but something struck me as strangely parallel with the books after Sookie took to the skies with Eric this ep

I’ll take a couple days to let some go out of my system except for my one seizure med (I’ve had alcohol many times with that one with no repercussions, including a hangover!), and I’ll drink along with everyone else! I have been wondering – with all the talk from the writers about Sookie and Bill being soul mates but not really saying anything about them being together at the end – if it’s been to kind of throw us all off a bit. I don’t think Sookie will use her ball of light to be completely human. Jason said so himself, her telepathy and her faeness is what makes her “Sookie” remember when he caught her trying to eradicate her light? He stopped her, I can only guess that Eric would stop Sookie from using her fairy light.

I don’t really see it as Bill being a martyr. He was never really happy with being a vampire, except when he was Billith, and he seems to be seeing this as his way out, a way to get back to his wife.

Ok, I guess martyr is not the right word, but I can’t think of another one at the moment. He’s trying to be the ‘good guy’ by saying that the darkness is not the way to be her because she is of light. (I assume he’s talking to Eric at that point). Why did he have a flashback that his wife turned into Sookie. That confused me since up until now, he was only thinking about Caroline. I don’t know.

I kind of see it as a martyr thing b/c of the “dream” he had of Sookie and the “smoke baby?” He will see his dying as a way to “save her” from him (b/c she’s always gonna come back for more-obviously. The bonus is that he gets to die as “hero.”

I can see that and it’s probably what TIIC want us to believe. I just can’t get past the fact that Bill does what’s good for Bill. His decisions over the course of the shows were based on what is best for him, what will better his life, what will give him more power. I guess that’s why I had a hard time seeing this as a martyr type move.

So it probably was meant to see Bill making a sacrifice, but I guess I haven’t seen the Bill ‘redemption’ yet.

I agree, Bucky needed to get over his Stephen/Bill fangirl moments… the scenes with Anna and Alex are what made the show for me not the Stephen/Anna moments, they had no sexual chemistry after the first year.

Im kinda scared , I was thinking about Pam being silvered and Eric saying he was here for Sookie I think he might be giving her up to save Pam and IDK maybe Eric will have to kill Sookie and he turns her at the last second. I was just thinking they are going to try and show us that Eric is all about Eric kinda like the last book tried to show us. I hope not but it was something that crossed my mind.

    Firstly hoorah for healthy Eric!!!

Tara – what an awful way to go. She survived 4 seasons of hell and sacrificed herself for her best friend only to be turned against her will and took a while to accept herself and end up a stronger person and then she met the True Death so she could wander around talking nonsense and forgive her mother?! Bullplop. She deserved better and Rutina deserved better. She is a fantastic actor and they wasted her on that show. She definitely has a bright future ahead though.

Behl – more flowery platitudes at Sookie when she brought up the topic of Sophie Anne. Am proud of her for bringing it up but also annoyed at how easily she forgives him. Sure he was her 1st love (vom) but you are in your late 20’s dear not a teenager! While he is dying and you feel guilty that does not mean you have to serve yourself up for him. It just makes you look like a harpy and fickle since Alcide is barely in the cold ground a week.

As much as I hate Sookies’ Behl obsession (which I still chalk up to his poisonous blood and her guilt) she was very proactive this episode. She gets sh*t done when Eric is around!? She is a better person around Eric when she’s not harping on about Behl.. Anna and Alex together just kill me with their subtle expressions and gestures and I have a feeling based on next weeks’ promo that they will kill me… Alex plays being in love with Sookie so well and it’s just a travesty what was done to their story.

Seriously Behl if you weep and mourn so much for your lost humanitah just fall on a stake already or meet the sun. So sick of his martyr complex and it’s dragging Sookie down. As well as the god awful cello music at least we didn’t get another sex scene.

Also megalolz at the darkness baby. I spent a good 5 minutes laughing at that nonsense.

And finally Hoyt is completely different and very hard so not sure him getting back with Jess is a good idea considering how much she messed him up even through glamour. I’d like him to get his memories back but having them get back together after all that happened is so lazy much like most of this season.

I couldn’t agree w/ you more about Tara. True idiocy what they did to her as a send off.
I couldn’t agree w/ you more about Eric and Sookie too. So much chemistry. So much waste by TIIC.

From the previews, I think I’ve got it figured out…

~The Yakuza find out that Eric (and Pam) told Sookie (plus Bill and Jessica) about the cure. (Sarah probably tells them when they take her trying to bargain for her release.
~They put Pam under silver and threaten Eric to bring Sookie to them (since she knows too much).
~Eric goes to get Sookie. (Hopefully), to be honest with her about the situation when she invites him in. He appeals to her to help save Pam telling her the only way that can happen is if she goes with him.
    ~He flies her to Fangtasia.
~The Yakuza know how much she means to him, since he defended her before and he is, again, forced to choose between his child and his love. He tries to bargain with his own life again, but they don’t want to kill him, as he will be their next spokesperson.
~He chooses Pam, but has already made a deal with Sookie, giving her the choice beforehand, that he will save her with his blood, but he may have to turn her.
~She agrees, Bill has died and she conflicted about his decision to give up and thinks that maybe he’s right since everyone she loves either dies or leaves.
~(oh, Sam has left too to be with his new family as well as Lafayette has left with James)
~She agrees to help, but doesn’t want to be turned, as she’s said in the past.
~When she is fatally wounded, he can’t let her go because he still loves her too much.
~She is turned with Eric as her maker and after is ultimately happy because she knows he will never leave her, loves her and has the will to live.
~Pam hates it, but what can she do. It’s done.

~That is where the ‘waking up’ and it was a dream comes in. If it goes that way, it would be nice if when she woke up, it turned out that yes, she is writing a book series…but she is a vampire, writing a stories about what it would be like to be a telepathic human.

Interesting ideas (maybe more interesting than what we will get on the show). It would make sense for them to have to have Eric choose again (since they introduced the little plot out of no where). I can see everything you said happening up until the last bit. With the rumors there have been about a CH appearance though, that has me thinking we will be seeing an older Sookie in the future.

I was talking to a friend at work about it and he absolutely refuses to believe that CH will be the one in the end writing the books. He thinks that the “dream” when she wakes up will be like a foreshadowing of what would happen (like in Final Destination) if she makes a certain decision. He sees it coming back to her, within the context of the story, that it was not a dream, but a vision she has right before she sees Bill walk in for the first time and decides to seat him in Arlene’s section instead. LOL

maybe vamps being awake in the daytime is a new insidious infection that don’t know about yet. The first sign is being able to be awake in the daytime without the bleeds. In the preview you see Pam in silver and Bill talking to Eric about their darkness…. And if you go back to the
Sylvia thing when Eric picks Pam over her.. I just ha a wtf moment that TB is setting things up for both Eric and Bill to die to save Sookie so she can go on ” in the light”. Plus the whole Bill saying he wants to set her free and that whole Niel bit. I hope I am wrong and that it’s all a CT thing on my part.

I doubt if they would kill both Eric and Bill. Bill and Eric might both “give Sookie up” though. We’ve seen Eric do that before when he thought it was what Sookie needed. We have definitely seen that Eric loves quite unselfishly. There might be a moment where Eric has to make a choice between Pam and Sookie, but I don’t see either of them dying. I think Eric learned his lesson w/ the Sylvie thing.

As for any rumors of actors being mad at others? I don’t tend to believe those kinds of things. I mean–why be mad at fellow actors over the show? I figure that the show’s creators are more to blame for the nonsense–even if actors make their preferences known. But who knows?

With only two weeks left, I know we’re gonna get things we don’t want to see. I’m just gonna try to “hold on” and take it, even if it’s the worst scenario playing out. Despite the fuck-uppery, this season’s already better than last–ironically. Last season we had no Eric and Sookie scenes after Episode 1. This season, we’ve seen Eric and Sookie in the same scene for two episodes, and the previews show others. To me, that’s a small victory. And I’ll take it.

Your right on all counts. I just had the worse case thought because of how season 5 and 6 went and the books.. I just don’t have hope of and good outcome. The show missed the mark when it came to Eric and Sookie. Alax and Anna do have chemistry , and it is lost on the show.

“Juicy,” eh, Bookworm? How about one of the most highly anticipated sex scenes in True Blood history finally coming to fruition? Is that “juicy” enough for ya?

With only two episodes to go, there are a lot of narrative threads to tie up, including the issue of Bill’s mortality. I will only say this: At least one original cast member will say goodbye for good this week. In possibly related news, a longstanding love triangle will be resolved and you’ll see one of the show’s weirdest — and funniest — sex scenes between a long-unrequited pair.
    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Above are the spoilers, what highly anticipated sex scenes are they talking about? Long-unrequited pair?

Who didn’t have sex with each other? Eric and Pam had sex when they did the flash back when he turned her and I would not call them long-unrequited? Anyone have a clue?

The love triangle could be Hoyt,Jess, and Jason?

    Maybe Sam decides to leave?

Why the heck did Buckner not take the hint from the backlash CH got form the ending of SVM and give us a likable Sookie in love with Eric!

Eric and Ginger???? Perhaps if the “love triangle” resolves itself and I’m sure it will be Eric that is the one left out…sigh…I saw the girl talk clip b/t Sookie and Arlene and she says that she always held a part of herself back from Alcide b/c of…you guessed it….BEEEEHL!

The show has decided to have selective amnesia regarding her and Eric and his place in her heart so this tied with her reaction to Eric being healed pretty much seals the deal in my mind.

I really really hate that the show
Portrays Eric as chasing something that has no interest in being his…

After rewatching the last episode, Bill’s confession of QSA intentions would make an incredible story. Since Bill was a procurer could he have already obtained access to a male for breeding with Sookie. If so, why did he take her virginity since he was sent. What would her life had been in captivity as a breeder and blood source. Still can believe Sookie did not blow a fuse offer his admission of deceipt. That Childe is seriously mentally impaired.

I read a fanfiction story a while back which focused on Sookie’s captivity with QSA severely abused by Andre eventually rescued by Eric. I can’t imagine that life being kind.

If you ever write that story, it will be awesome. I have a tough time reading stories involving captivity and abuse. There is no way I can see to write that story without some elements of depravity. Maybe that can be the challenge to handle that subject matter with sensitivity and depth, informing while entertaining. That’s probably why I’m the reader and you are the writer. Lol 🙂

Well thank fuck Bill *fell in love with her and delayed/kept her from Sophie Anne* because the idiotic mushroom not only didn’t throw a hissy…or stake his ass…upon hearing what plans he WILLINGLY participated in AND set in motion, but it never once dawned on the dimwit had he NOT ‘fallen for her’ her ass would be a brood mare raped daily for teacup fairy flavored juice boxes! It didn’t dawn on her to ask *how many others* fell to similar fates due to the ‘procurer’ being excellent at his job! SophieAnne forced Bill my ass! He took the damn job! He took the job even as he supposedly was uncover spy for the mainstreaming movement as Nan’s mole! My f*n shih tzu has more brains than Sookie…and he sometimes eats his poo! I’d say Bills blood ate through her brain/lobotomized Sookie but that implies there was something to begin with.

Yeah, to your point of Bill, why DID he taker her virginity if he new she was supposed to “breed”? Even when QSA was alone talking to Bill she said she couldn’t wait to walk in the sun again. Nothing was said about breeding her with another fairy. In fact, it didn’t appear that she knew anything about other fae being around. Just another new plot point tied in that had no bearing on anything previously discussed. And her curling up with him again after knowing that…why is she not enraged that he was procuring her at all like she was before, esp since he gave her new news about her theoretical fate? Makes it all ok that he again says that once he fell in love with her he couldn’t do it. Boggles the mind the selective memory that they have given her and how easily she holds on to her false feelings for Bill, knowing deep down that they came from his blood (which she has now had again recently) and discards Eric now that he’s healed.
