Episode 7.1: “Jesus Gonna Be Here

6-22-14

Hmmm….already reflecting upon the episode’s title–“Jesus Gonna Be Here”–and it’s only 5:50 p.m.  Jesus may be there, but I don’t think he can save the ship that is True Blood.  And–even if he’s there–will many other people be there?  I know of many who refuse to watch b/c they won’t give HBO the satisfaction of their viewer rating.  I almost made the same decision, so I cannot blame those who made the decision NOT to watch.

But for those of you who are watching with me and commenting–I hope you will ignore the typos that will come from my quick typing and alcohol consumption tonight.

Remember–I’m drinking whenever Bill says or implies that he’s the best thing since sliced bread!  AND when he gets that constipated look as if he’s eaten no sliced bread forever.  So I will be incoherent soon.

Confession:  I’ve already had a tequila shot to lube the brain and get rid of the brain filter…which means that–after tonight–I will probably not be able to run for public office.  LOL.

5:59 p.m. –turning to HBO now.  Drink at the ready.

Here we go…

How the hell did the vampire population of Bon Temps grow so much to merit that mixer???

Sam, don’t pick a dog for a vamp fight.

Drink one: Bill constipated.

Tara dead!  Wasn’t expecting that…can’t say I’m sad…loved her at first, but….

A Skars not seen on credits!

Okay, folks, post away!

When Sam shifted into a dog of all creatures…I was really just shaking my head.
Tara dead – seemed anticlimactic for her character. She had been there from the beginning. I am wondering if there will be more to this.
I am wondering how long they will be pulling the is Eric dead or not question – especially since there have been interviews revealing he’s not dead.

Pretty blah episode. Tara gone. Oh well they didn’t use her well anyway. Perhaps Lettie Mae screaming about Tara still being there means she visits Lafayette in ghost form. No Alex in credits. They must be trying to simultaneously tease us and erase him from our memories so Sookie won’t even consider him as a possible suitor. I too think that the whistle calling off the attack was Eric. The bad vamps are at Fangtasia and I am willing to bet Eric is Hep V infected and that he is their leader. This way Sookie and us will get no more sexy, clever Eric to te mpt us. One more reason for Sookie and all of us clearly misguided Eric fans will have to turn away from him. They are obviously destroying everything we all love about Eric so that Bill can be elevated to saviour status. Eric will revert to bad Eric from the beginning with the deaths of Godric and Eric’s sister and being infected with Hep V being the catalyst. They will drag it out and then they will kill h I m just as callousley as they did Tara. Bill will be there pick up the pieces. Such a waste of a great character.
Didn’t the CH debacle last year tell them anything. All I have to say is that HBO is going and will never return to my house. It’s too late to save TB but we all should let thm know how mad we are. Our next problem is to try to save the fandom because crap like is going to wound it in a big way. Remember HBO is going to be trying to syndicate TB post series. There are lots of people who have yet to see the show and this is what they have to look forward to. Imagine seeing it all again for the first time. Falling in love with it and then getting kicked so hard you can’t catch your breath. So sad to not be looking forward to next week.

I apologize if some else already said this, but maybe the reason we didn’t see Pam react to Tara’s death is that Pam’s “scavenger hunt” scenes are showing her experiences from 6 months ago?? That might explain the “daylight in both places halfway around the world” question, too.

But … it would go along with your theory about who might be whistling. Pam AND Eric could already be back in LA … and (please do not let it be so!) … maybe that’s why they’re using Fangtasia?! Those Zombie vamps don’t seem smart enough to formulate any kind of a plan about who to “abduct and save for later” vs who to eat immediately 😉

I would say that for one of these shows we should take a shot every time that Sookie does something stupid, but we probably wouldn’t make it through the episode.
As for Pam not concerned…wouldn;t surprise me if their is a twist but I will just blame it on lack of continuity.

If we took a shot every time Sookie did something stupid – or did something she said she’d *never* do / never do *again* – we would all end up with severe alcohol poisoning 😉
Sadly, drinking to Bills constipation face, Bill incessant pramble ‘Sookeh is mahn’, or Bill insisting: ‘somebody made me do it’ / ‘was for your protection’ is actually Safer for our kidneys than trusting Sookie to use her brain.

I agree w/ you halfway. Maybe I’m the minority, but I don’t think Sook’s “slutty.” From my count she’s in her mid-20’s and her number is 4, which is less than mine was at that age. And I “get” Warlow. She was distraught b/c of finding out her parents tried to kill her (twice) and she wanted to f+ck the pain away (like Eric with Nora). And, I’m also going to give her the benefit of the doubt w/ Alcide. Maybe she waited a while b4 jumping into that.
But I totally agree w/ you about why I’m mad at her–for throwing away Eric without giving him a real chance. Actually, I think that move was a biproduct of all the crazy shit that Bill did to her. Sigh. I feel sorry for her, and if she’d just quit doing dumb things (like walking in the woods at night), I’d be on her side. LOL.

Hmmm. You make some good points. Although it wasn’t so much about the number as it was about the speed with which she jumped from to the other. She was in fairy for 20 minutes, so from her perspective, one day she was “in love” ith Bill, then a few days later she’s “in love” with Eric. Then she breaks up with BOTH of them because she “doesn’t want to hurt anyone”. -WTF? How is hurting EVERYONE better? Then, it seems like just a few days later she’s ready to get her drunk on with Alcide. Then a few days after that, she’s screwing and ready to runoff with. Warlow. THEN, she basically propositions Sam a more days later and then ends up with Alcide for real. Living with him after only a few months.

Final verdict: True Blood suffers without Eric. It just does.
I was surprised to find myself rooting for Sookie. There’s still so much potential in her. But I just know that this hope will be dashed.
The redemption for Bill is already starting. The flashbacks of him with his human family? WTF. Am I supposed to feel bad for him now? I just can’t.
What I loved: I’m struggling to find something…because I know that the hope I feel for Sookie is going to end up fruitless…
What I hated: If Tara really is dead, we didn’t see it happen. We should have for a long-time character. If she’s not dead, I feel like they’re already trying to manipulate me.
    What I went WTF with:
    1. The Hep V vamps taking prisoners….in Fangtasia! Which, of course, sets up Eric being the king of the Hep V vamps. LOL.
    2. Bill’s haircut.
    3. Sookie climbing into bed with Alcide–naked–after the nonsense his mind spewed.
    4. Jason and Violet. Jason’s I am man hear me roar speech was just demeaning–for him and me.
    Who I “liked”:
    1. Good job Jessica.
    2. Good job Adeline
    3. Good job Andy
    What I already forgot:
    1. James’s story
    2. Everything related to Sam

Ha! Awesome! I agree with much of the above – I think James has a hankering for some LaLa for sure, the whistle could be Eric, but what about someone else – it probably doesn’t make sense (just trying to think outside the box) but where’s Niall? And good Lord – Sookie walking home alone – gah! I know we can’t help what we think, but really? Alcids couldn’t help thinking that Sookie is to blame for the spot they’re in, or rather how they wouldn’t be there if she hadn’t slept with vampires (like she was the only one) – then Sookie taking responsibility for it all . . . I realize the books revolve around Sookie, but the show doesn’t – can you say narcissist?

I am still holding on to hope that Bills’ redemption involves him sacrificing himself to save Sookie but like a cockroach I fear he will outlive us all.

We saw him die at the end of S5, but you are right. The cockroach won’t die.

Awful. They just made Pam so blasé. They kill Tara and we don’t get to
Watch her explode. Sam turns into a collie to save his pregnant girlfriend. Jason and Vivian have the worst lamest sex scene ever. Ellie Mae what a waste. Kudos to Andy, Adilin and Jessica. James and LaLa who cares. Sookie oh please. God I’m drunk from the awful plot. How stupid. Bill don’t even get me started.
We are going to have to pretend the last 2 seasons didn’t happen just like we did with the books.

Ok great synopsis of the episode. I’ll be here every week just to read the snarky hilarity that follows the eppy. I’m just so extremely grateful to the fanfic writers who bandage my gaping wounds after shitty seasons/episodes of TB. I can HARDLY WAIT to see what you (California Kat) come up with to replace the clusterfuck that I’m sure S7 will be. So excited *happy dance*
Are you going to wait until the season is over or write as the show happens? Whatever you come up with…I just know everyone’s going to love it 😀

I’m going to wait b/c I’m working on other things, but I am taking notes. “Avalanche” actually sets things up for my version, but I’m not sure how much of the nonsense from the show that I’ll try to keep. I might scrap it all, or I might keep some of the items. We’ll see. 😉

I agree with Ericluver, Thank you so much for writing the FF!! It makes me feel better since, I’ve invested so much with these characters from the books and show.

I woke up and just watched it. It was incredibly boring tbh.
Really writers? After all the stuff Tara has been through you kill her off-screen whereas Terry Bellefleurs’ death takes up half a season?! Disrespectful! I thought Sookie would have reacted more to her death. I’m guessing she’s in shock?!
Sookie and Alcide- lol. Their sex scene was awful. No chemistry there at all! Sookie had been drinking too so is it a pattern with them?
I am pleased that they did bring up Sookie being able to read his thoughts though. That was one of my major issues with their relationship not including him taking advantage of her drunk in season 5 and of course Sookie killing his ex.
Also F you Bon Temps residents. Slut shaming her in their thoughts! Vampire existed long before Sookie Stackhouse was born so to blame her everything is lame and a desperate attempt to make her vulnerable again so she has reason to go crying to Behl!.
Why is no one blaming Bill. He is the genius who decided it would be a great idea to blow up the True Blood factories resulting in hungry vamps and the development of Hep V. The ret-con of the previous seasons is frightening!
As for Pam how disgusted did she look when she was offered a child to drink?! Say what you want about her but I’m glad she declined. It was strange to see her without her warpaint on too. So Eric is in France with a badly drawn treasure trail map?! I’m guessing that Silvia is a vamp and a former flame where things ended badly because Pams’ reaction was like What?!!?
To try and end it on a positive note Sookie finally remembered Eric existed by mentioning him in the coming weeks trailer. Granted it was an Eric is gone but she at least looked upset about it!

Looks like I missed a lively party. And yeah, it is Bill’s fault, but as usual he lets Sookie take all the blame. (proving he deserves to be staked)

Exactly. The writers know the only logical way for Bill to get back Sookie is to prey on her when she is at her worst emotionally so having the townspeople tear into her leaves her isolated and vulnerable.
It’s a pattern in her life unfortunately though – she got with Bill when Gran was murdered, nearly slept with Alcide when she was hammered thinking Lafayette and rest of town hated her, slept with Warlow after finding out her parents wanted her dead and she then ended up in a relationship with Alcide after she was recovering from nearly being turned into a faepire and mourning the death of Terry. Eric is the only one who hasn’t preyed on her when she is in an emotional state. He’s the only one who has respected her wishes. She rescinded his invitation and instead of fighting it or showing up unannounced he loved and respected her enough to stay away.

and speaking of LaLa hating her….why did NOTHING ever happen in response to him cursing her car and trying to kill her? He wanted to tell her and it never came up again….WTH? and wouldn’t they have commiserated together when Tara bit it?

Lala is yet another character I used to love who makes no sense to me anymore…
I will add him to the list that includes Tara (who I loved till mid-season 2) and Sam (before we found out he was a grifter and murderer).

I liked your analysis. And I think you are right on about many things.
I, too, didn’t think the Tara death was respectful, but–thinking about it–I don’t believe she’s really dead. I’m betting Tara killed the Hep-V vamp she was fighting and then Lettie Mae went (even more) nuts seeing her “baby” being a killer. I’ve decided to give Pam credit that she would react to feeling Tara die. I think Tara will turn up alive/undead at some point. Sigh. But–if she doesn’t–then I am totally with you on you assessment. I loved Terry too, but Tara–for better or worse–was a major player and he wasn’t.
I am also with you as far as Sookie/Alcide goes. I don’t hate Alcide, and I don’t blame him for thinking–though his thoughts are deplorable. His thoughts centered around Sookie not being about to stop having sex with vampires! WTF: He couldn’t stop himself from having sex with a person who tried to kill Sookie, took up with a guy name Cooter and was hooked on drugs. Sorry–Alcide, but you should turn some of your thoughts around to yourself. You SHOULD have been thinking this: “I hope that Sookie’s okay, given the amount of trauma vampires like Bill have caused her in the past.” That’s what people in love think.
And I am totally with you about the alcohol she drank b4 sleeping with him. I agree that it’s a pattern.
I also think you assessment of WHY we are hearing all the thought of residents is spot on. It’s to get us to see Sookie “broken down” by the thoughts of everyone so that we will “accept” why she needs to be with Bill, who will never be blamed for anything b/c he’s managed to convince everyone that “he’s the victim.” What an ass. And what tools TIIC must think we are.
I honestly didn’t know what to think about Pam this episode. Her devotion to Eric is amazing, and I get it, but I just hate to think of her going around the earth looking for him like that for so long. He obviously doesn’t want to be found for some reason, and I still think it’s b/c he’s got Hep-V–or a form of it. I just don’t know what they are going to do w/ Eric when he comes back. I fear that Sookie’s “Eric is gone” comment will be spoken if he shows himself with Hep-V. As in He’s “gone” b/c he’s succumbed to the disease. I’ll wait to pass judgment, but I’m sort of scared about what they are going to do to one of my favorite characters ever. I already know they are going to leave Sookie in an unsatisfactory position (in my opinion). So I want Eric to be better off. I’m afraid they will kill him. Sigh.
Anyway, I loved your comments! And you got me thinking about the episode again. You’re right. It was overall boring, and it didn’t give me much hope for the coming season (not that I had much anyway).

I’m glad I was able to contribute some comments even if I were late with them! Damn time-zone differences and it’s only going to get worse (series wise and…) because I just got myself a shift job so I may be 2 days late with analysis! ;D
